Making Science Work for You in Simple Easy to Follow Insights

Prevention is better than cure!!

The idiom highlights the importance of proactively taking steps to prevent a problem from arising than to deal with consequences after the problem has occurred. Unfortunately, human health is a one way street, where once things progress it is almost impossible in every case to reverse the progression of problems. Therefore, working to prevent (or slow) the onset (beginning) of a problem is the only viable solution for maintaining good health.

We are living in a time where science is providing constant supply of good information that can be readily be useful to help prevent (or slow down) onset of problems before it begins. However, these scientific facts are often complex, confusing, difficult to understand and not clearly translated for the non-scientific community to review and adopt.

HEALTHLOGIKS is dedicated to providing scientific evidences supporting simple actionable steps to preemptively take charge of individual lifestyles towards better Healthspan, Aging & Longevity

The site aims to simplify the science and biology published in scientific literature on the benefits & pitfalls our everyday food & nutritional (including supplements) that have the potential to impact the processes supporting aging, longevity and wellness.

Before getting into the science on things to do for healthy aging, let us begin the journey by understanding current concepts and terminologies on aging and longevity. The most fundamental of these concepts relates to “Chronological Aging” versus “Biological Aging”.

  • Chronological Aging: This simply refers to passage of time (measured based on birthdays) or specifically measurement of age based on day that we are born to current time in years, months and days. Every passing day increases the chronological aging number.

  • Biological Aging: This is based on measuring numerous biomarkers in the body that provides a good estimate on the condition and functionality of the various body components and is considered a good measure of an individual’s health status. For reference, if a sum of biomarker measurements in an individual 60 year old (chronological age) is comparable to standard benchmarks established for 45 year individuals, then the biological age of the 60 year old individual is suggested to behave as that of a 45 year old.

Chronological and biological aging are two complementary ways of understanding the aging process, but they differ in meaning and significance. Chronological aging refers simply to the passage of time—how many years a person has lived—whereas biological aging reflects the condition and functionality of the body’s cells, tissues, and organs. While chronological age progresses at the same steady rate for everyone, biological age can vary widely between individuals due to genetics, lifestyle choices, environmental exposures, and disease history. As such, biological age is often considered a more accurate indicator of an individual’s health status and risk for age-related diseases than the number of candles on their birthday cake. Understanding the difference between these two concepts is key to advancing research in aging, preventive medicine, and personalized healthcare.

For healthy aging, the focus should be on lowering the “Biological Age”; e.g. a 65 year old individual with a health that is typical of a 45 year old healthy group of individuals.
